Frequently asked questions

Yes. The installation process involves several steps. Below we have included a process diagram for the pre-press and for the print shop.

The entire installation process is carried out by our technicians and installers. The installation is completed by training the personnel in the operation and the ability to correct and set their own parameters. See point.3.

In order for the QUICKER UV LED exposer to perform its function, it must be able to fix the photopolymer resin from which the plate is made before it becomes a printing plate. Our lamps emit light in the 365 nm range suitable for the photopolymerization processes of flexographic and letterpress plates available worldwide. However, due to the different production processes of each plate manufacturer, the UV absorption profile for each plate can vary significantly. Therefore, during installation, our technicians adjust the exposure parameters for each plate type.

After installation and determination of the optimal parameters for backlighting and main exposure, the customer is trained on how to correct the predetermined parameters and how to set up the new type of plate by itself.

It has two parameters at its disposal:

  • Lamp passage speed (affects the process of point building and the amount of energy delivered per lamp passage)
  • number of lamp transitions (affects the amount of energy delivered to the plate during the sum of all transitions)

The device (motors, drivers, etc.) in addition to the lamp is covered by a 1-year warranty. The life of the UV LED lamp is estimated at 20-25,000 hours of continuous operation under optimal conditions.

As the manufacturer of the illuminator, we offer a warranty of 5,000 hours of operation or 1 year, whichever comes first. The 5,000-hour period is the time during which we can ensure stable lamp illumination, with no drop in power. After this period, the lamp should continue to work properly, although there may be a gradual decrease in its power of a few percent, which is natural for this type of equipment. In this situation, we recommend recalibrating the illuminator to correct any power drop and ensure optimal performance. Our technicians can do this during a technical visit.

With different exposure times for different manufacturers, the basic warranty is enough to expose about 17,000 m2 of sensitive plates or about 8500 m2 needing more energy.
It is possible to take advantage of additional service plans that extend the lamp warranty for further periods, for example, 2 years and 10,000 h.

Approximate costs of additional service plans:

  • + 1 year to the boothard warranty and + 5000 h + 10% of the bid value of the exposing machine
  • + 2 years to the boothard warranty and + 10,000 h + 20% of the bid value of the illuminator

With each service plan, additional paid visits by our technicians are required to inspect the device and check the quality of the lighting parameters.

We use two solutions for cooling the lamp:

1. air cooling of QUICKER UV LED lamps is sufficient when:

  • the working environment is not dusty
  • in the work premises, the temperature does not exceed 35 ℃
  • the environment around the lamp has the necessary airflow for cooling

The feature of such a lamp, is:

  • larger size, as there are heat sinks and fans built into it
  • More noise, caused by the operation of fans.

(2) Cooling QUICKER UV LED lamps with liquid is used when:

  • the working environment is dusty
  • ambient temperature may exceed 35 ℃
  • The air around the lamp, necessary for its cooling, is hindered
  • lower noise levels are expected
  • a more compact lamp size is required. Such a lamp does not have built-in heat sinks and fans.

A feature of such a lamp is that the illuminator must be equipped with a chiller where the liquid circulates between the lamp and the chiller in which it is cooled (the cost of the chiller alone without connection is about 1-1.5 thousand eur). The chiller has built-in protection that ensures that the cooling temperature does not cause condensation on the lamp, which is deadly for it. For example, when the humidity is 50% and the ambient temperature is 25 ℃, the condensation point is about 13-14 ℃. Therefore, the chiller makes sure that the lamp temperature is close to the ambient temperature (in this case 25 ℃) and does not drop below 14 ℃.

The chiller is an additional cost. We buy it from a third-party supplier as a complete unit. The customer receives two devices from us. The exposure machine and the chiller connected to it. He also receives two separate warranty documents. One from the chiller supplier and the other from us, as the manufacturer of the QUICKER UV LED illuminator.

Liquid cooling, in our QUICKER UV LED illuminators we use when the following conditions are met, together 1 and 2 or separately 3:

  1. The exposing machine is used in an external pre-press room. Here we are guided by the fact that these are customers who use the exposure machine even 24 hours a day.
  2. The formatQUICKER UV LED 100 or QUICKER UV LED 200) is ordered. If we were to use air cooling on such large exposures, we would have to increase the number of cooling fans, which generate additional noise. With such a long lamp and potentially long operation, it is worthwhile to provide operators with quieter working conditions.
  3. We install the QUICKER UV LED lamp in the machine where air access may be limited, the ambient temperature may be higher than 35℃ and/or there is a risk of condensation.

We use air cooling, in our QUICKER UVLED illuminators, when the following three conditions are met:

  1. With QUICKER UV LED 75 or QUICKER UV LED 100 exposure formats
  2. Exposure machine is used in the in-house pre-press of the printing house
  3. The ambient operating temperature is no higher than 35 ℃

Our QUICKER UV LED illuminators are protected against possible overheating if, for example, they had to operate in a higher temperature environment. When the maximum safe temperature for the lamp is reached, the controller will automatically turn it off and restart it, after it has cooled down.

Why QUICKER UV LED exposing machines?

Stability and repeatability of the exposure process

UV LED exposures, such as the QUICKER UV LED, provide uniform light emission with consistent intensity over the entire surface of the plate. Unlike traditional fluorescent lamps, which lose power over time and can result in uneven illumination, LED technology guarantees a consistent process throughout its lifetime.

This translates into high quality and reproducibility of print printing plates, which is crucial for maintaining production boothards in flexographic printing houses.

Precise detail mapping and flat point vertex

UV LED technology makes it possible to obtain so-called "flat-top points," or raster points with a flat top. Such points provide better ink transfer, eliminating the edge effect and printing inks flowing down the point.

This makes it possible to print very fine parts with high precision and to achieve smooth tonal transitions, which is particularly important in the production of packaging and labels with high quality requirements.

Print Systems

Energy efficiency and longer life of the light source

UV LED floodlights have lower energy consumption compared to traditional floodlighting systems. In addition, LEDs have a much longer lifespan, resulting in less frequent replacement and lower operating costs.

The lack of need to heat and cool the device allows it to start working immediately, increasing the efficiency of the pre-press process.

Environmental compliance and occupational safety

UV LED technology does not use mercury or emit ozone, making it more environmentally friendly and safe for operators. The lack of harmful emissions and the lower operating temperature of the device reduce the risks associated with operating and maintaining the equipment.

In addition, the quiet operation and compact design of UV LED floodlights improve the comfort of the pre-press room.

Integration with platern pre-press systems and automation

UV LED exposing machines, such as the QUICKER UV LED, offer the ability to integrate with other equipment in the master preparation process, allowing automation and optimization of the entire pre-press process. This makes it possible to reduce pre-press time, reduce errors and increase production efficiency.

platern user interfaces and the ability to remotely monitor operating parameters further facilitate process management.
